25 day countdown

Im trying to get a little festy but not in the tacky way, a more spiritual way this year. Ive started knitting a nativity to have in our home. I would like something to symbolize the reasoning of celebration at xmas. So with a half Joseph complete im feeling right.

Another snippet from afternoons at home is this rather big flower headband in my daughters fav. colour

pink pearlie skirts and ducks!

A week or so ago we awoke on a Monday feeling a little jaded. So a naughty decision was made. Instead of the usual flying around to meet school starting times we decided to take a mental health day and opt out of the whole routine. A lovely, relaxing day of bike riding and babycino's. At the end of it we felt much like this duck family we passed on the lake; very content! I wanted to reflect on this day as it was one of those days when it feels all is right in theworld. Back on track with my creating today. I had picked up some pretty, shiny material with a blossom style embroidered flower whilst thrifting around the local shops. In my true whip-up style, unplanned without pattern I came up with this little skirt, on and ready for school pick-up!! Yes, results!!!

the 6year old distraction

It seems I am in that place where all crafters go sometimes when they are time poor, lacking inspiration, can't decide what to start first or crafting just feels like too much of a guilty pleasure. Anyway not much to show from the last few weeks which seems pretty ironic considering I claimed in a goddess way that everyone would receive a handmade gift for xmas. My god, what was I thinking. Must have been having a buddhist moment. So after carrying home truck loads of books from the local library week after week I have decided that I probably won't make all my xmas presents this year.
Onto my next little piece of news, my first born tonight lost his first tooth! So as we sat together trying to draw the perfect tractor for his 6th birthday party invitations out it fell, the tiniest tooth I have ever seen. Needless to say he scampered to bed in record time awaiting that very generous tooth fairy!! Cheers to 6 year olds and to you Alister my very special boy!

the firsts

A night of firsts. First time I have left my children with a babysitter, a real one you pay! First time attending a trivia night! Achievable. My faith in the teens has been restored with a very sweet 13yr old playing happily with my little children.

littlepolly fairy dolly

I decided to call her Polly. Just thought she was sweet enough for that name. She now belongs to another sweet little girl also with brown her. I know this little girl will treasure her and keep her safe so best wishes Polly in your new home.
sweet dreams

mid-week

As the week continues Im feeling quite inspired. Have just finished a little fairy tonight all ready for departure to her new home tomorrow. A birthday surprise foe a 4yr old. It is so gratifying to complete things and feel satisfyed with the outcome. Im actually a little sad to see her go as my fairies and dollies seem to evolve as I work on them and eventually take on a little personality. Photos to come tomorrow as the light tonight is too dim.
Happy creations and enjoy the process as much as the outcome!

its getting late!

After some late night thought I decided to pay hommage to my family of knitters. Firstly my mum who continues to inspire me and constantly keeps me quite grounded with her simplicity in life. Secondly my late nana whom as a child I spent hours knitting with or perusing over patterns in old english women's weeklys. I have knit all my life so thankyou muma and nana for passing on your skills.
I cannot wait to knit with my own daughter. Here she is earlier this year on her third birthday having just opened her dolly that my mum had made for her. We still love liza -jane.'
goodnight pearlie and liza jane

Snippets of me

Finally some time to reflect on the last few weeks. As I become more adept at posting I'm sure I will post more frequently, usually I spend too much time being inspired by all those creative and clever people in blogland and then I feel my time is up.
I thought I would photograph a little spot with some of my favourite things and a tiny pair of socks I completed on the weekend for a friends new baby boy. The socks are Debbie Bliss; wee willie winkie'. I guess you would say I am a knitter first and foremost. As most knitters claim, when you are knitting you are completely in the moment and there is something beautifully tactile about holding some natural cotton or wool and wooden needles as you enjoy the rhythm of creating little stitches with your hands. I do experiment with other crafts but seem to come back to my knitting in times of frustration or just to relax. With so many beautiful patterns now I also procrastinate on what to make far too long but I guess looking dreamily at beautiful knitting books is recreation in itself. My favourite designers are Debbie Bliss, Louisa Harding and Jo Sharp.
As our weather warms I look forward to sitting on my verandah, barefoot, with spring flowers around me, good coffee and time to knit something very feminine in a lacy cotton!
I hope my thoughts resonate with other knitters and crafters out there. Happy knitting everyone.

We now have pictures

Meet my little creation, a tiny felt mermaid with her adornments. I enjoyed creating her and my 3yrold now enjoys her in play as well. I'm hoping this blog will give me some space to showcase my creative urges and provide an outlet for those not so creative moments.

a place to start

For so long now I have been skulking around other very inspiring blogs thinking do I shave anything intelligent or even creative to say or even display. Maybe I have or not.So I am going to write for myself and not think I am being critiqued on an english essay. I will just write randomly, daily, weekly however I feel. Im sure if I put too many clauses on this it will feel like a chore. It is quite late now so I will end my first ever blog with no pictures or heartfelt sentiment but goodnight.....
